project earth

This past weekend we took the kiddos to project earth, a festival run by our good friends and old neighbors, the band wookie foot. these are our friends, mark and jojo...
from their website:

Project Earth is an experimental convergence between a music concert, rainbow gathering, eco-village and political and social justice alchemy.Primarily Project Earth is an opportunity to camp together and fund raise for charitable causes. That’s right…100% of the profits for this festival are going to help other communities around the globe. By taking the focus off the “main stage” and dividing the energy between numerous ambient performance spaces, an atmosphere of intimate spontaneity will unfold.we had hoped to camp, but due to the crazy tornado weather and rain storms, we had to cancel that idea. but we couldn't NOT go to the festival, so we drove down for the day on saturday. we actually set up our tent, and thought we would camp, even in the rain. but after 9pm the sky took on an eerie green glow and wookie foot took the stage and said that they wouldn't perform until the storm passed. we decided to bail and drove to the nearest town, geneva, where we waited out the storm in a bar. eventually we thought the worst of it had passed and we drove to the NEXT nearest town, owatonna. we actually ended up driving through the storm, and were lucky we chose to go north, not south, as tornadoes touched down in albert lea. it was pretty intense, big rains and winds and black sky all around, i thought we might be swallowed up by a tornado. but we arrived at a hotel safe and sound and camped there for the night. here are some storm photos taken by others that attended the festival...

it was all worth it for the fun day at project earth. wren had a great time dancing in her tutu and observing all the crazy hippies and the bright campsites. she loved the costumes, and painted people, and especially any fairy wings. she's our little flower child!

here she is between diaper changes:

DANCING!

people that were mud wrestling and mud dancing. wren loved watching them, but told me several times, "no wanna go in the mud." good. you don't have to. she did love walking around in the mud and puddles though. but thats ok. everyone there was barefoot. hippies.and here are pictures of her at the playground in the oak tree tunnel. mike and i loved this piece. the festival cam ground is on this gorgeous land with tons of huge oak trees. this is one that was turned into a play tunnel for the kids. just beautiful.
and here we are in the dark waiting for the concert to begin. before we left. before the storm.
